Center Parcs research shows outdoor corporate events drive productivity and morale

Center Parcs’ first ever white paper has revealed work events held outdoors compared to indoors are better for employee wellbeing, productivity and business performance.

Center Parcs Conference & Events worked with a third-party for the paper to survey HRs in the UK. This enabled them to gather data and information on corporate events’ impact on employees and businesses.

The survey results showed that 94% of companies agree that work events have a positive effect on employees, and the events with the most benefit occur in a natural setting. Furthermore, 53% of companies claim employees feel more positive about work after corporate events. When events were held outside, this increased to 63%.

Similarly, while 80% of companies affirm that work events bolster employee satisfaction, a high proportion of businesses (86%) see greater employee satisfaction when events are held outdoors.

Centre Parcs’ whitepaper also showed corporate events held outdoors increases productivity. The research shows that 75% companies believe corporate events improve employee productivity which rises to 84% when these events are held in a natural setting.

Again, the paper highlights the benefits outdoor work events have, this time for workplace disputes. 85% of companies see improved employee relations after outdoor events, 10% more than when asked about events generally.

Over half of companies also reported that natural settings proved beneficial for enabling relaxation and creativity.

The data showed corporate events help companies generate additional revenue. Again, events in natural settings fare better regarding revenue. While 69% of companies agree that corporate events contribute to revenue strategies, this goes up to 81% for outdoor events.

Julia Green, head of corporate events at Center Parcs, said: “That events held outdoors are especially effective at boosting morale, helping colleagues connect, and driving business is certainly not a surprise to us, but it’s encouraging to see this backed up by hard data.

“Center Parcs has always championed the power of nature, and we’ve continued to leverage the rich forest surroundings of our venues in Sherwood and Woburn to create relaxing and revitalising corporate experiences that help employees refocus and stay motivated, adding tree-top saunas and forest gong baths to our already diverse offering.

“What’s more, as businesses grapple with a slew of additional pressures, ranging from a sluggish labour market and welfare reforms, workers will inevitably be feeling some stress, and so bringing employees together has never been more important.”
